GDL sponsors successful Blue Mountain Caribbean Junior Tennis Championships 2012
Gore Developments Limited was a proud supporter and sponsor of the the successful Blue Mountain Caribbean Junior Tennis Championship 2012 held Monday, April 9 through Friday, April 13, 2012.
The inaugural tournament was held at Kingston's Liguanea Club and coordinated by Llockett McGregor who formatted the competition to mirror the 'Brandon and Phillips Junior Tennis Tournament', which was held in Jamaica for some 40-odd years, building the skill-set of many junior tennis players within English-speaking Caribbean countries.
Junior players from Barbados, Bahamas, Trinidad and Tobago, St. Vincent, Antigua, St. Lucia, Cayman, Grenada and Jamaica competed in an exciting week of play, which included highly competitive team events with four boys and four girls 16 and under from each country as well as '14 and under' and '12 and under' open events.
According to Gore General Manager, Ruthven Ottey, the company's support of the championship is a reflection of Gore's overall dedication to investing in Jamaica's social development. "Gore believes sports is very important to the development of this country. Sports have a big role to play in youth development specifically, and helps to keep the youth occupied and away from trouble", he explains.
By Monday, April 16th, the local media was abuzz with final competition standings. The Jamaica Observer headline noted "Jamaica defeat Barbados in Junior Tennis Champs', marking the local success of the young Jamaican team who defeated Barbados in the team event 3-0.
