Gore Developments Donates $250,000 to MICO Men's Programme Scholarship
On November 2, 2012, Christopher Gore of Gore Developments Limited handed over a cheque of $250,000 to Dr. Claude Packer, Principal of MICO University College, and Seon Hunt, MICO student participating in the school's Pre-University Men's Programme (PUMP). Hunt is the recipient of this year's James F. Gore scholarship under the PUMP programme.
According to Dr. Packer, “There are men who have come from poor surroundings and are talented; so we have started what we call the PUMP and selected talented young men from across Jamaica. We are happy that the Gore family and company can help a young man who wants to pursue engineering.”
The James F. Gore scholarship was established in memory of its namesake, who was a past student of the Mico University College, former president of the Jamaica Manufacturers' Association and grandfather of Gore Development Ltd Chairman, Phillip Gore. Gore Developments Limited thought it fitting to create a scholarship that would recognize his entrepreneurial skills while encouraging entrepreneurship among students.
Gore Development Limited's General Manager, Ruthven Ottey explained, “Gore is very involved in education in Jamaica. We see it as an important ingredient in uplifting and developing the country.”
