Jamaica College Receives Refurbished Block of Classrooms from Gore Developments
On Tuesday, September 27, 2011, Gore Developments Limited hosted a handover ceremony at Jamaica College where Gore handed over a block of newly refurbished classrooms to Jamaica College. The ceremony included Phillip Gore, Chairman of Gore Developments Ltd., along with board members and the executive body of Jamaica College.
As a way of giving back to his alma mater, Mr Phillip Gore offered to refurbish four classrooms as well as construct a fifth classroom on the building now officially named "The Phillip Gore Building". Mr Gore noted “Jamaica College means something to me and hence it was a ‘no brainer’ to help, because I passionately believe in education being the salvation for this country”
According to the school’s principal, Mr Ruel Reid, the new classrooms will be fitted with latest technologies and will be used for study sessions to allow for more group work. He also intends to facilitate a culinary arts programme in one of the classrooms.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Ms Audrey Sewell, acknowledged the ministry’s constraints to fulfill all the needs of schools and commended the partnership of Jamaica College and the Gore team taking on the task of making the spaces available for the students.
