JC Construction Project Management Course
Moment of pride for the 14 Jamaica College students graduating from the 2017-18 Construction Project Management Course (CPM), as they are officially handed their certificates on October 12, 2018. The Gleaner’s Automotive Coordinator, Mr. Kareem Latouche (a JC ‘Old Boy’ himself) was there as guest speaker and presenter.
The graduates didn’t just learn all the theory surrounding the theme – Project Management – which includes the defining roles of: the Project Manager, the Architect, the Commissioned Land Surveyor, the Civil Engineer and the Quantity Surveyor; after all that theory, the boys had to spend 2 weeks on one of the GDL’sactual construction site. This year, it was Phoenix Park in St. Catherine.
After a year of soaking up the theory of what it takes to actually build a house; an entire development yet – the boys are required to undertake on-site training during the summer holidays, under strict supervision and getting their hands very much dirty. Kitted out in all the appropriate safety gear, they are transported to and from the development every day, and from all accounts, they find life on the site, prettyexciting and can certainly attest to the importance of ‘hands-on/practical’ learning.
Another successful cadre of JC boys receive their certificates in Construction Project Management and as of September 2018, another CPM school year gets underway. 14 boys started their learning experience in this field…for the third year running.
The JCCPM has proved not just popular, but a resounding success!
